Reading a study today saying that it’s being linked to dementia. Personally I can’t wait. I want to know what its like to be able to listen to trump without it feeling like someone is beating you in the head with a hammer.

The resonator on my old car blew out and sounded obnoxiously loud for like a month, I felt like such a dork commuting it to work. I genuinely felt so happy to have it quietened again.

I don’t think these people necessarily think it’s cool either. They want attention and to annoy people, which is what they get.

I’m a semi car guy and I made my car “louder” on purpose. It wasn’t for attention or to make girls wet. It was literally because I liked the sound, and it’s less restrictive, which means more horsepower.

I get that some are obnoxious, and I’m not saying they’re not doing it for attention. But, some of us just want to enjoy our car.

Not some. It is obnoxious. The reason why doesn’t matter.

          some?

lol you probably think your shitwagon spewing hydrocarbon exhaust doesn’t count, get fucked. made car louder on purpose is a cute way of saying “I intentionally circumvented the engine’s efficiency in order to VROOM VROOM LOUDER” because that’s what your doing.

Enjoy tinnitus, shame you couldn’t keep it and your exhaust bullshit to yourself.

Future generations are going to despise this one - we had all the knowledge needed, just couldn’t motivate fuckwits to give up their vroom vroom for the sake of the ONE LIVABLE BIOSPHERE IN THE UNIVERSE WE HAVE ACCESS TO.

Selfish doesn’t even begin to describe it.

There are ways to enjoy cars off public roads and away from private residences.

good for you. the one you’re replying to doesn’t.

also I’d wager there’s some non-renewable energy being used when you charge either at home or away, and even then, motoring for fun is releasing tons of other shit (particulates from your tires) - maybe time to find a new ‘hobby’

For sure. Given that public roads are the most horrendously undertaxed public resources out there, it’s especially irritating when folks go out of their way to use them in the most self serving fashion imaginable.

Private tracks exist. They don’t mind engine noise.

                  1. Not everyone can afford an electric car 2. Harassing individuals has been identified as counter productive over and over again. Maybe try to help the climate crisis by holding the corporations actually responsible for the issue accountable instead of alienating potential allies and giving the movement an overall insufferable vibe.

Even worse with motorcycles. Seems like most people own motorcycles specifically for “fun” (waste fuel and make noise).

And just generally being loud. Even regular cars can be loud if you drive like an asshole.

Motorcycles I can kind of understand. Some people believe that making their cycle loud makes it more “visible” to other drivers, helping to prevent accidents. I don’t think there’s been any studies to prove this, but I can understand why people buy into it.

At that point you probably shouldn’t drive a motorcycle. If you’re only doing it because of money (fuel efficiency + vehicle price), there are quite a few cheap, small cars nowadays and even the flimsiest of those are still safer than a motorcycle. If you’re just doing it because driving a motorcycle is fun, you’re the problem.

The general issue is that it’s actually pretty hard to drive a motorcycle quietly, because the motor kind of has to be small (necessitating high rpm to get to speed)(unless you’re going for something expensive and impractical) and there’s not an entire chassis around it to dampen the sound like in a car. If you don’t insist on driving quietly and using one of the quieter types of motorcycles, you’re pretty much guaranteed to be loud enough to be annoying.

I’m about two months into owning a fully-electric vehicle (not a Tesla, thank goodness), and I have a hard time getting over how wonderfully quiet it is. And it’s one of the qualities I couldn’t wait to experience.

I’ve got a close elderly family member who’s recently gotten fixated on investing in crypto, watching all the YouTube videos on the subject.

I don’t know enough about it to confidently say they’re going to lose all their money, I’ve never looked into it because it just screams get rich quick scheme, but I don’t have high hopes for them.

Clever insults rather than substantial discussion or “to cut off heads in order to appear taller,” rather than doing the work to actually be a better version of self.

Moaning about issues without putting in effort or taking any risks to correct issues.
