  • Exactly my take, spot on.

They run to their Republicans, voting blindly like always.

Perhaps a glimmer of hope in NW Florida? Voted for the Democrat I knew would lose yesterday (special election to replace Gaetz.) She lost, but we closed the gap and the other Florida election closed it tighter.

Been saying for years, vote even if you know you’re candidate will lose. These fuckers can read spreadsheets, and hopefully we can make them see the walls closing in. But yeah, had a wild day yesterday and it was a pain to take time out to vote for a loser. But goddammit, my voice will be heard.

  • I fought my mom’s mountain lion when I was in my early 20s. Had 20-30 pounds on that bitch. She hated men in hats for some reason no one ever figured out. Teased her a bit, looking her in the eye, on my knees on the living room floor, with a straw cowboy hat on.

All I saw was a tawny blur, ended up on my back with my long hair coming out in hanks. The cat ended up with my hat. Along with more of my hair.

I no longer have illusions against my chances vs. a possum.

  • Have you watched the investigative documentary? Or do you just “know” from what you gleaned on social media? I have a feeling your opinion was formed by the later. If so, give the linked show a watch, gave me a much deeper insight into how it all played out. As I said, clusterfuck, but I was surprised at what I learned.

Unless you feel PBS is fascist propaganda? Or perhaps are afraid you might see something that changes your opinion? Again, betting on the later case.

Every single cop on the Uvalde police force deserved prison time

I seem to have my answer as to where you get your information. How very conservative of you. Seething outrage at a thing you haven’t actually taken an hour or two to learn about.

Here’s the part where I have to make a “lemmy caveat” and state that I fucking loathe the police, ACAB, all that, for fear of being excoriated. All that is true, but I don’t have to say it.

  • I’m going to go with what European military leaders are saying, out loud and in public. God knows what those leaders really know and talk about.

I’m guessing you’re European? Well, you’ve had 80 years of mostly peace and prosperity. Timed to get armed, personally. (Yes my fellow Americans, Europeans can acquire guns without too much hassle. Yes, real guns. Gun ownership just isn’t a major part of their culture like it is over here, and their culture isn’t as diseased as ours regarding weapons.)

If you’re allergic to guns, consider these two scenarios:

    1. Hostile foreign power invades America.

    2. Hostile foreign power invades Europe.

In which case do you expect the invader to suffer the most? Which case do you consider more likely?

  • This is America. People do whatever the f*** they feel like doing, you got a problem with that? Because they have a right to. And because they have guns and no one can f***ing stop them. As a result, this country has one of the worst economies in the world. When it gets down to it–we’re talking trade balances here–once we’ve brain-drained all our technology into other countries, once things have evened out, they’re making cars in Bolivia and microwaves in Tadzhikistan and selling them here–once our edge in natural resources has been made irrelevant by giant Hong Kong ships and dirigibles that can ship North Dakota all the way to New Zealand for a nickel–once the Invisible Hand has taken all those historical inequities and smeared them out into a broad global layer of what a Pakistani bricklayer would consider to be prosperity–y’know what? There’s only four things we do better than anyone else:

    music

    movies

    microcode (software)
