Games@lemmy.world•Amazon cutting thousands of corporate roles [including video games]English
61·2 hours agoThe layoffs also hit Twitch which has had a notorious bot problem for years. So now they’re going to use bots to fight bots?
Honestly the best thing Amazon could do is just shut down twitch completely. It’s become a dumpster fire of its former self. It used to be about people playing games and now it’s about which streamer is sexually assaulting which other streamer and dudes putting shock collars on dogs.

3·11 hours agoyeah at this point the days of getting everything on my system to “look nice” or look the same is way past me. now I just don’t care. everything is set to the default, everything looks different, my system looks like a clown sneezed all over it.
as everyone else has said soulseek and nicotine+.
If you want to get your spotify playlists from soulseek use this script: https://github.com/fiso64/slsk-batchdl
basically you export your spotify playlists as a csv and slsk-batchdl will take that and try to find everything on soulseek and download it for you. anything it can’t find it’ll let you know. it might take awhile, if you have a server I’d run it on that via screen and just let it run overnight (that’s what I did)
Keep in mind that Soulseek has A LOT of audiophiles on it so you’ll find a lot of high quality audio and FLACs. if FLAC is too big for you and you’re fine with mp3s you c an use Nicotine+ to just search for mp3s.

Linux@lemmy.ml•my reason why you should use KDE+Krohnkite instead of WMsEnglish
1·2 days agoKDE will never use auto tiling as if you’ve followed any of the git issues regarding this KDE devs themselves have said they personally don’t use tiling so they’ll never add it to Plasma. Their compromise was basically setting pre-designated areas on your desktop to drag windows to. KDE wants users to use the mouse. they prefer it.

Linux@lemmy.ml•my reason why you should use KDE+Krohnkite instead of WMsEnglish
2·2 days agoIf you like using the mouse alot and you’re more comfortable with clicking than yeah there’s really no point in using a tiler.
If you’re someone like me who doesn’t like using a mouse and are used to VIM or Emacs for navigation then tilers make sense. In many cases using a keyboard is faster than using a mouse. OR you’re a weirdo in the middle then you’d use Krohnkite on KDE.

11·3 days agoto be fair there are many games that are like Getting Over it or Balatro or even Vampire Survivors it’s just many of them aren’t as successful or known as those games.
honestly I would say it hasn’t really gotten into it’s groove/good until like a few months into this year. It’s gotten A LOT better than what it was. So waiting until now to try it was a good call actually.
there is depending on what distro you’re on and the packages they provide for Plasma.
Like Arch for example you can get a barebones basic version of KDE Plasma. NixOS you can tell it to ignore certain parts of Plasma from the package when you’re building it. I would assume other distros have something similar. This applies to the settings too. you can literally make your plasma include zero kwin stuff if you wanted.

121·3 days agoI don’t understand why though. If the files were released tomorrow and it had his name in big bold colourful letters all throughout it what then? I know he’s in them, you know he’s in them, EVERYONE knows he’s in them so what’s the point? motions to impeach the fucker get presented almost every week and go no where. Why would I believe THIS time would be different? Nothing can touch the guy. Hell he lead a coup at one point and US fuckers elected him AGAIN.
I GUARANTEE you if the files were released tomorrow there would be a collective “A-HA TOLD YA SO” and then jack all because that’s how Americans operate - focus on one thing, get obsessed with it, lose focus, wait for the next thing.

3·5 days agoyeah try turning off the hardware accelration on the browser…which browser btw?
if the hardware accelration doesn’t work check the Lutris forums and/or discord to see if anyone has come across the issue. Have you tried running ESO via steam at all? potentially could also check it via protondb.com if you try to run it via steam.
Generally though there should be scripts with Lutris to install it correctly. But i’d still check with the Lutris forum/discord (they’re really nice and helpful dudes) if the browser thing doesn’t work.

Linux@lemmy.ml•Nice changes when switching to Linux and a smallish problemEnglish
9·5 days agoyeah probably hardware accelration on the browser. could also be the DE/WM you’re using on it.
What desktop environment and/or window manager is she using on the laptop?
if Fortnite is a crucial element for you, and it sounds like it is, you’re going to have to dual boot.
Games like Fortnite, League of Legends, Valorant, Apex Legends, recent Battlefields, etc aren’t going to work on Linux due to the fact Epic, Riot and EA decided kernel level anti-cheats were their “best” options.
That being said the majority of games work on Linux and especially via Steam.
As far as Distros go Bazzite is primarily focused on gaming. If you want something that will do both gaming and work stuff then I’d suggest CachyOS. It’s fast, very fast, great for both work and gaming. It will give you plenty of options for Desktop Environments on install and I would suggest you install it with KDE Plasma so you have a bit of familiarity coming from Windows.
I recently tried Gentoo, I liked it, dare I say I loved it. The problem is, I don’t have time for it. I would love to use it as a daily driver on my main rig but due to my work it would never fly.
I am however thinking of putting it on my server where I just don’t need to spend time with it. I can compile and and just let it be while I do something else.
