Right, they are not meant to show posts in equal manner - freshness & hotness do matter in engagement and are indeed shown higher compared to other posts and comments. But still, a few posts from last night might have only a couple of comments, but since it’s already a few hours old, we don’t reply or engage with it. We judge engagement by these timestamps and so removing timestamps will lift engagement on all posts & comments.

I’d like to suggest removing timestamps on all comments, like you could still toggle a button to see the timestamp of a comment if you wanted to, but the timestamp shown on default doesn’t serve any purpose other than tell the users how fresh or how stale the conversation is. When the conversation is say only a few hours old, many users will choose not to engage because we assume the conversation is over and there isn’t any point in engaging further, so we skip altogether and move on. I can tell from my own experience I’ve done this more than a few times, I’m sure others have as well. When you only have a few thousand users across the world, unlike Reddit, we must preserve the freshness of the few conversations we do have so as to increase engagement from all.
Seriously, though, I’d rather be blind than deaf.
Woah, I almost wanna say the same too, but on second thought, I’d rather be deaf than blind - that’s because I think eyes are the windows to a person’s soul, and I can peer into anyone’s soul just by eye contact. Too bad my eyesight is aging faster than the rest of me.

2·2 months ago- I will make infinite copies of myself, then 2) I will physically manifest myself in reality in all the different shapes, sizes, & colors I can imagine, then 3) I will experience life through the perspective of each of those infinite copies, one day at a time, one life at a time, 4) remove all memory of being God so the only memory I have in all of my life forms is the lived experience.
WAIT, I AM ALREADY DOING IT!

14·2 months agoA goalkeeper in soccer or similar. It’s a thankless job, you save 10 shots, nobody notices. But you miss one and you’ll be called a bum by your own fans. As opposed to a forward striker, who might miss 10 shots, nobody notices. But you make one and you’ll be a hero being paraded on shoulders.

51·3 months agoMarket socialism, aka worker cooperatives, consumer cooperatives, credit unions, open source, fediverse etc are still part of capitalism, but are not profit first. All enterprise exists to create value for, and serve the community, profit doesn’t have to be the driver. When refugees move to a new city / country, they setup ways to share food, clothes and other goods in order to serve the community, it’s not profit first. In essence, when community is more important than commerce, then the enterprise won’t be profit first.

54·3 months agoEnshittification is a result of a company trying to squeeze more out from their customers this quarter than they did last quarter. That is because the line must always go up, so any wall St or investor first company becomes a profit first company. This is the westernized flavor of capitalism. Not all capitalism is profit first.

2·4 months agoLovely comment. People live their entire lives maintaining a facade that they don’t have the mental bandwidth to maintain as they age. Just maintaining that facade eats up your mental processing capacity. Moral of the story, drop the facade, drop the mask, embrace and be yourself, and live freely.
AI art -
For someone who creates art - AI art is meaningless because art really is about how the process of creating art itself makes us feel, how each brush stroke fills us with joy as the whole picture comes together more beautiful than we imagined. Even in misery and failure, it really was about the experience and living through those moments.
For someone who just appreciates art - AI art is soulless because there is nothing authentic about it, nothing relevant or connecting you to any story or person. I can’t imagine anyone even putting AI art on their walls.
For someone who previously had poor access to artistic expression simply because they lacked the artistic skills - AI allows them to express themselves freely unlike ever before. For advertisers and slop generators - they were gonna automate it anyways, it’s still a useful tool to create digital campaigns if you’re into that, but with all the slop out there, AI will only accelerate humanity’s move away from attention economy to sustainable economy.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Lemmy, what's the meaning, or point if you prefer, of life? I know 42, but I'm serious. Nothing lasts, everything is meaningless - are we just amusing ourselves until death?English
6·5 months agoI am the universe, and therefore the universe has a purpose in giving me consciousness for a lifetime. We get a lottery for what life-form we get created in (whether we’re a human or a fish or a leaf) and most of that life will go just chasing the continuity of life (consuming energy, burning energy, reproducing), the rest is all made up rules of engagement in society (school, work, career, politics), all of which is “Leela” - a very believable illusion, like a game of monopoly or a very engaging play or a movie - believable, but not absolute truth. So back to the universe and why it gave me consciousness in the first place? It’s just so that I can experience the universe, and see the beauty and oneness of all universe - not just the stars and the planets, but also the living forms of it - the flowers, the bugs, the pets, the wildlife, and all of the other humans on this planet, each one a unique fucking marvellous magical version of the same universe.

Also, man these robotic arms sure help automate our factories, but if you turn your head upside down you will see it as ‘lowering the market value of human skills’.
