If everyone in the world was on one universal time, some people would be functioning in the dark while people on the other side of the world are functioning in the daylight. Not fair. Time zones are essential. And yes, in most places in the world, 12:00 p.m. is when the sun is highest in the sky.

I wonder why they wouldn’t just cremate immediately, which makes me wonder if morgue is waiting for a moment when cremating a non-paying homeless person would be most time-and cost-efficient, horrifying I imagine that they might throw that body in with the next paying customer. You know family members are never allowed to witness a cremation of loved one, even if they’re the ones who paid the fee. So hey, morgue might as well throw in a homeless guy, make it a two-for-one deal. Because surely there are costs associated with heating up the crematorium.

I was 8 years old when I learned the multiplication table and I honed it through repetition over the next couple years. Everyone in our class had a multiplication table taped to the upper left corner of our desks. I think it was optional. Not required. It was more of a fashion statement at the time, showing who had a “Trapper Keeper” because we’d cut that multiplication table out of the corner of one of the folders that the trapper keepers came with. So it was in style at the time in the mid 1980s. In idle moments I’d study it. It was fascinating as I began to notice the patterns and the magic of the math and it was fun to learn & memorize. Grateful to learn that in my youth because my brain would not be so pliable & spongelike these days.

So am I the only one for whom time stamps don’t work anymore? Every time I post a YouTube video with a specific time stamp, the video always starts at the beginning 🫤 Time stamps used to work fine for me until a couple years ago, time stamps hate me now.

Your last sentence is correct. We don’t have obvious patterns that would cause us any confusion (beyond the confusion we already have with this measurement system that makes no sense), so we simply memorize it.

I can’t believe after all these decades, the USA still sticks with the imperial system. It’s nonsense. But I grew up with the imperial system so that’s what feels natural to me and I can “feel” what a mile feels like, I can “feel” what an inch feels like, but if you speak to me in metric, since we in the USA are not as exposed to it over here, I need to pull out my calculator to make the conversions to understand how a meter relates to a foot and a yard, yes I hate it, I would rather be able to think and feel in metric because it’s more logical.
