I think there is currently Tumblr, Twitter, Mastodon, Bluesky and Facebook.
Anything else?
Buying advertising on Facebook seems to be the defacto way to influence masses.
Facebook has incredibly invasive data collection, aggressive algorithms and therefore very fine grained targeting options and it has a bit over 3 billion active monthly users (many of them 100% captive because they won’t have Internet without Facebook)
Unfortunately you have to have a Facebook account to publish ads on Facebook
And you need to give money to them, yes. But that was not the question.
Fair; idk why I said that lol
That’s a tough question. It’s hard to know, because there are so many bot accounts.
The platform providers would like everyone to believe they have 100% solved this, and keep giving them advertising money.
But I feel like the three largest players are also the ones who have done the most to demonstrate general, all around untrustworthiness, recently.
I feel like which network depends on what you’re advocating for and to which type of person. For example, Mastadon, Lemmy, and Bluesky are fairly left-leaning, so advocating for a well-known liberal idea there could be “preaching to the choir”.
