The Free Music Archive (FMA) is an online repository of royalty-free music, currently based in the Netherlands. Established in 2009 by the East Orange, New Jersey community radio station WFMU and in cooperation with fellow stations KBOO and KEXP, it aims to provide music under Creative Commons licenses that can be freely downloaded and used in other works. The service launched with an emphasis on curating high-quality works in a manner “designed for the age of the internet”. Users can also “tip” musicians via donations.
Okay, so I was wondering if there were any cool ways to find new artists. Then I stumbled across the Free Music Archive – seriously, it’s a gem! It’s got tons of music from independent bands and artists, and most of it is under Creative Commons licenses. It’s a really easy way to discover some awesome tunes and support the musicians directly. Definitely worth checking out if you’re looking for something different!

Dogmazic! Dogmazic is one of the primary free music download managers in France. Dogmazic was created in December 2004 by the Bordeaux-based Association Musique libre!, a major proponent of the French free music movement. Dogmazic’s database contains roughly 2000 artists, largely but not exclusively from France. All of Dogmazic’s music is licensed under terms that permit free redistribution, such as Creative Commons licenses and the Free Art License. Dogmazic does not carry any advertising.

Is there a way of doing a shuffle on all artists and/or artists in a genre similar to a music streaming app? Or do you just have to listen and download?

A monthly playlist of about a 100 songs from small artists, not all of its to my taste, but there’s definitely some diamonds in the rough and a lot of exposure to the unfamiliar
Their youtube chanel is cool because they do the radio over videos of streetview cams or cars/bikes/people driving around in random cities. Its a good vibe.
